Australia: Bushells Tea sponsors Driver Reviver

Road safety experts regard driver fatigue as one of the biggest killers on Australia’s roads. In some states, fatigue is estimated to contribute to around a third of fatal road accidents.

Bushells Tea has a long history of helping travellers, selling tea to the early settlers of Queensland during the gold rush in the 1880s. Today, it is the major national sponsor of Driver Reviver, a community based initiative run by volunteers that aims to reduce the number of road accidents. Each holiday season, as families embark on their vacations, more than 220 Driver Reviver sites open across Australia.

The sites are ideal places to take breaks on long journeys. Here, drivers can get a free cup of hot Bushells tea, a quick snack and most importantly, the chance to revive so that they can reach their destinations safely. Over a million people take advantage of these facilities each year.

Driver Reviver started in the 1980s and has grown into a national safety initiative supported by dedicated volunteers from community groups such as the LIONS Clubs, State Emergency Services, Volunteer Fire Fighters and the Volunteer Rescue Association, together with state government agencies.

A Driver Reviver website features safe driving tips, the location of Driver Reviver sites and links to traffic information, enabling drivers to plan their rest stops.
